The
science

ZymIQ Technology is a Swedish biotechnology company that develops enzyme-based antimicrobials and products to improve the skin and microbiome.

Meet the head scientist,
Mats Clarsund Ph.D., CTO ZymIQ Technology

Mats has extensive expertise in product development (discovery, pre-clinical and clinical) and commercialization of biological-based products. He received his Ph.D. from Lund University, Sweden, specializing in enzyme engineering and biotechnology. He has also authored/co-authored 36 peer-reviewed publications, including 8 patent applications.

What is the
hydrolytic enzyme?

It might be a mouthful to say, but put simply, the hydrolytic enzyme is a powerful protein that unlocks hydration and healing for the skin

The hydrolytic enzyme is activated by the condition of the skin, such as its pH and microbiome activity level (think of your gut microbiome, but on the skin – which is actually the biggest organ we have). It helps your skin do what it does best, hydrating and protecting your cells while optimizing its microbiome.

the hydrolytic enzyme has
3 key functions

microbiome rebalancing
& microbe deactivation

Eczema, psoriasis, and acne often arises from an imbalance in the skin’s microbiome. The enzyme works to restore your skin’s microbiome to its most natural and healthy state, and deactivate excess microbes (viruses, bacteria, or fungi) on the skin’s surface.

performance booster

The enzyme helps other active ingredients in other products perform better. This means you’re getting the most out of the other ingredients (e.g. peptides, collagen, hyaluronic acid) thanks to the enzyme’s hard work.

hydration

The hydrolytic enzyme deeply hydrates the skin with hyaluronic acid and collagen, but also helps the skin draw in moisture from within. This means your skin feels nourished and glowy all day long.

How the serum works

The skin comprises of two key outer layers:

epidermis: The outermost layer that keeps your skin hydrated.

dermis: The layer below the epidermis containing proteins called elastin and collagen. When these proteins get worn down over time, the skin loses elasticity and develops the appearance of aging.

A few drops of the hydrolytic serum creates a silky film on the skin’s surface and hydrates the epidermis and dermis layer from the outside, as well as hydrate the dermis from within.

The enzyme is also a mild exfoliant that gently removes dead cells from the skin surface, leaving the skin smooth, fresh, and radiant.
